Long live the camelina! The roasted oil winner of the SIRHA Innovation Award 2023

Frequently Asked Questions

Camelina is a cruciferous plant. It produces tiny yellow flowers. Its seed is harvested and mechanically cold pressed to obtain camelina oil.

Camelina oil is obtained by cold pressing camelina seeds by mechanical pressure in a seed press equipped with an endless screw. The oil obtained is then decanted then filtered and bottled. No treatment, refinement or product is found there, only virgin and pure camelina oil.

Camelina oil is very well balanced in terms of its fatty acids. It contains 35% omega-3 polyunsaturated fats, 18% omega-6 and 30% omega-9. It also contains several antioxidants from the tocopherol family, including vitamin E, called alphotocopherols. Among the antioxidants, note the gammatocopherols which are antioxidants that we find in large quantities and which are relatively rare in food. These antioxidants are responsible for the great stability of camelina oil to heat and time. Camelina also contains polyphenols, known for their many benefits on cardiovascular health.

Camelina oil has herbaceous aromas that give way to notes of hazelnuts and sesame. It's great with grilled vegetables, salads, marinades and more. It is a pure delight!

Founded in 2014, we are a family business from St-Édouard-de-Napierville in Montérégie. We are producers of camelina, an ancestral plant with exceptional qualities, although it remained mysteriously unknown for several years. We harvest the seeds of camelina which we cold press to obtain camelina oil. We offer several camelina products, including camelina seeds, a vegetable protein and local alternative to chia seeds. Camelina honey and camelina chocolate are also part of our product range. Our Signé Caméline products can be found in more than 700 grocery stores across Quebec, in addition to being exported to several countries around the world. We sustainably cultivate camelina in Quebec. A processing plant was built in 2018, equipped with a wall of solar panels, which allows us to save 22 tonnes of greenhouse gases per year. Authenticity, quality and development are part of our values.

It is an agriculture that respects the soil. Indeed, all our products are produced in sustainable development, certified without GMOs, without seed coating, without insecticide or fungicide. Camelina is sown in crop rotation. We use minimum tillage techniques to minimize our environmental footprint and reduce the use of fossil fuels.

Camelina is a cruciferous plant, related to mustard. It may contain traces of soy or wheat on camelina seeds. Note, however, that laboratory reports indicate a value of less than 5 ppm (parts per million). Our facilities and products do not contain any traces of peanuts or tree nuts. We hold SQF quality control certification which aims, among other things, to control this type of risk.

Yes, camelina oil can be used in cooking. Moreover, it is delicious when cooked with grilled vegetables, meats and fish. It has a smoke point of 475 degrees F (246 degrees C), one of the highest on the market.

No, thanks to its many antioxidants, camelina oil retains its fatty acids and many properties in the heat. It is the tocopherols, particularly the gamma tocopherols, relatively rare antioxidants, but which are found naturally in camelina, which are responsible for this remarkable heat stability.

Camelina oil can be kept for at least 30 months. It is the antioxidants that give it this stability, including vitamin E (also called alpha tocopherol) and other antioxidants. Camelina oil naturally contains 8% vitamin E.

No, you should only store the products at room temperature and protected from light.

Yes, crystallization is a natural process over time and is a sign that the honey is pure. To liquefy the honey, it must be heated in a bain-marie or in the oven at a very low temperature.

Camelina oil is very versatile. You can use it cold as a finish in vinaigrettes, salads and tartars, but also in cooking with meats, marinades, vegetables and fish. It perfectly replaces olive oil or vegetable oil in your recipes.
